I will the first to admit that sometimes keeping track of 84 players points, especially in high scoring games, can be a challenge. Making errors is frustrating. Making corrections is time consuming. I have really appreciated individuals pointing out errors in their points, especially Helene, who not only checks her points but everyone's points. This year was a shaky start due to just having surgery. When this all started 12 years ago I would just look up each game on the internet, it took a significant amount of time to review all the goals & assists. I then developed a spreadsheet program that downloaded each game's results and highlighted Drafted players in red. This reduced the time and effort needed to tabulate the points immensely. The first 4 days of games this year I was still regularly missing player's points, which Helene and others pointed out. I had to do better... concentrate harder...double check or maybe triple check the results. Instead I decided I needed to be smarter. I developed a computer program to get and tabulate only Draft player's points directly from the NHL This improved accuracy considerably, made it easier to tabulate points. So when I half-jokingly posted that the AINHLHPD Technical Team were working furiously to develop a new program....they were ! Below is the transition of points tally...on the left the original way....on the right the current way.

The 12 Annual AINHLHPD has started and we are off to another wild Stanley Cup quest. All game 2's have been completed....we have seen two players score Hat Tricks,.... unprecedented ! We have seen wild swings in goal scoring between Game 1 & Game 2 for both the Jets and the Leafs. We have seen what was arguably the worst face injury to a player resulting from a skate cut, requiring 75 stitches and Morgan Barron (Jets) came back to play the final period.... amazing. And last....what is probably the best Draft Team name so far in the history of the Draft....No Regretzk....now there is creativity !! Well done Ian.
Round 1 is over and we can now reflect on what has happened so far.....
I would to like to start by thanking those who pointed out errors so that corrections could be made.....Round 1 consisted of 51 games in 14 days, with a total of 319 goals, each game and each goal was analyzed by the AINHLHPD Analytical Department using the latest technology, however some errors are still made and your assistance in ensuring that data is correct is greatly appreciated. There seems to be a bit of controversy in player selection... Nic alleges he used "yet unreleased technology" to make in player selections....however it has come to light that Nathan has exactly the same players (minus the spares) on his team. Is it possible that Nathan has "hacked" this "unreleased technology" ? More investigation may be warranted. There was a question whether Goalie Assists are tracked . The simple answer is yes, as was the case in last night's Calgary/Dallas game. There were two other games in Round 1 where goalies had assists, however no team had selected these goalies. This has probably been one of the most exciting Round 1 in AiNHLHPD history, with 5 game 7's, 2 of which required O/T. Let's hope Round 2 is just as entertaining. We just completed Game 1 of the Playoffs and we have had 45 goals, 3 shutouts and a triple overtime game....that is CRAZY !! Hold on to your seats, we are just getting started!
"Stanley Cup Playoffs could be 'crazy' after record-breaking season. Eight 100-point teams in East, offensive renaissance among things to watch" - from the NHL website. This has been a CRAZY year in more ways than we ever could have ever imagined, so why not a CRAZY AINHLHPD Draft. We have reverted to "mail in" Team Selections and they are almost complete, some very interesting selections so far.....who is going to have the best team ? Nic has admitted to "using the assistance of not yet released technology" to pick his team. Sandi tried to "slip" a Russian player on her team, but was confronted by the Commissioner when one of his staff discover the Russian Player. The moment of truth will soon be here, the first Playoff games start tonight.
Below is the email sent to Helen with an E regarding her inquiry about Brayden Point points. This shows why it is important to check your points, as errors do occur ! Helen,
I did check your points for Brayden Point and in fact I did miss 2 goals in Game 1 against Florida and an assist in Game 2 against Florida and an assist in Game 3 against Florida. I sincerely apologize. Those errors amount to 6 points which brings your total to 129, 2 points behind Don. I will make an adjustment to reflect your unrecorded points and update the website. I think I owe you an explanation to how the error occurred. In Round 1 there were 4 games a night. The spreadsheet I use flags each “picked” player in the “box score” I download from the internet that scores a goal or has an assist. I also look for SHG OTG and UAG. As you are familiar with spreadsheets, I compare each one of these events, based on player’s name to the players picked in the draft. For this to work properly the names have to match exactly. Since there we so many goals in games in Round 1 (a total 46 goals in all Round 1 - Game 1) I didn’t double check the point tallies. I didn’t notice that the name you submitted “Bayden Point” didn’t exactly match the actual “Brayden Point” so those early points were missed. I do ask people to check their points, and I try to ensure the points are as accurate as possible but I do make mistakes. Anyway…thanks for bringing the errors to my attention and again I apologize. This will make for a more exciting Stanley Cup final only 2 points separate the leaders ! It might also answer the question …..which is best … a winning goalie or a hot goal scorer. TBL can lose so the goalies get no points but Point could score goals in a losing effort. This should be interesting. Peter Last year I said "This has been a year like no other" and that was true. This year has been another year like no other. The pandemic continues....., the traditional East-West divisions have been abandoned and replaced with more of a north-south focus.... the Stanley Playoffs started with little or no notice.....the regular season continues for some teams meanwhile we are into Round One / Game Two for other teams. Each Division has only played amongst theirselves...which should make for a very interesting Round Three. For the first time in the 10 year history of the Draft, a Draft team selected exclusively players & goalies from one team - The Maple Leafs. We will see how that goes for Jumpin' Joe Thornton & the Gang (Ian).
